Mass graves discovery won’t affect TPPA

The recent gruesome discovery of mass graves in Perlis is not likely to jeopardise Malaysia's participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) as there are no rules related to human trafficking in the agreement.
International Trade and Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria said human trafficking is not included in the TPPA rules and Malaysia will not be affected in the TPPA negotiations.
"In the context of that, there are some Senators who want to include it but it was not agreed. It's not in the TPPA," she told SunBiz at the sidelines of the announcement of Malaysia's investment performance in the first quarter of 2015 today.
She said the issue of human trafficking is not part of the discussion at all.
The authorities recently discovered 139 graves at 28 transit camps set up by human trafficking syndicates along the Perlis-Thailand border.
